Enchanting is an interesting profession that stands out massively compared to the rest of the classic professions: because you don’t really craft items!
Enchants are live traded
If you want to sell enchants you have to do a live trade, as there are no vellums in forver currently. So the main brunt of what you can do with enchanting requires you to do the enchant live with a customer. As I don’t personally enjoy sitting in town spamming a trade macro that means I usually don’t prioritize the enchants in the classic version of the game, but it can be quite profitable if you can get the customers. With a mega server I do expect competition to be quite fierce.
Disenchanting shuffles: One of the easiest goldmaking methods
Disenchanting shuffles is an absolute staple goldmaking method. The basics is simple, you craft an item, usually with tailoring and then you disenchant it. The goal is to get enchanting materials at a lower price than the current Auction House prices. I have a post on the classic enchanting shuffles from back in classic that is still relevant. Overall this has typically been profitable, but time consuming.
Enchanting for profit
Enchanting for profit is a nice way to get some extra gold. Generally you will get a fee for doing an enchant that is quite small, but since you are not taking on any risk it is pure profit. You will want to make a macro to post in trade to look for customers. High profits generally come from having hard to get recipes, for anything else profits are typically quite low as you will have a lot of competition. For me I don’t enjoy sitting in trade chat, but you can combine it with another profession, crafting something while looking for customers. You can even shuffle materials.
New recipes
We are getting a good number of new enchants as well as some BoP crafted gear for yourself. There’s also a couple of new wand recipes that are actually BoE and can be traded to other players. There are also quite a few recipes that were introduced in Season of Discovery that are currently in the WoWhead data for forever. A lot of the new recipes in Forever require the new materials that we don’t know the exact source for yet, including fel crystals also used for the new legionite bar transmute. One interesting thing however is that some of the SoD weapon enchants require a BoP material in Blood of Heroes. This is a GREAT source of profit as players can only buy this enchant from someone who has farmed some blood. This will likely yield a much higher value per enchant than items where the only barrier is having the recipe.
Item crafts?
As far as item crafts go there aren’t that many. You can craft some uncommon BoE wands, typically these have sold well in classic, particularly the low level ones. The vendor price has been cut significantly though, so the old trick of turning magic essences into greater magic wands to vendor them is dead. There are also some new epic special slots item to craft at max level, you can craft librams, totems and idols for druids, shamans and paladins. As these require raid materials I expect more players to use a crafting service than buying them outright. Lastly there is one type of consumable available to enchanters in wizard and mana oils. These are temporary weapon enhancements specifically for casters and healers. These typically have a decent sale rate, but are used less than elixirs from alchemy.
Overall view!
OVerall I think there are two main ways to use enchanting. You can go for being an enchanter, or you can use it strictly for shuffles. Of course combining the two is quite good as well, as you can shuffle materials while looking for customers. That being said just shuffling a bit here and there can be a very good addition to a goldmaking empire, if that is your plan, then don’t bother leveling your enchanter to level 60, as the end game recipes won’t matter. Personally I will be looking to utilize shuffles early on, and hope to get a lot of value for leveling other professions before swapping out of enchanting, as I don’t want to deal with the trade chat war for customers.
