So, I have been doing a deeper dive on cooking to see how you can maximize your profits.
Price variations
When I was looking through cooking I quickly realized that all of the most popular recipes were showing roughly zero profit. Now, I am missing a small amount of resourcefulness as I only have an epic tool, but this accounts for about 1% extra profit, so it would not really matter, as with the AH cut I would still be losing gold.
Luckily we have the undermine exchange were we can look at historical price data. Looking at the price data, we can quickly see that prices often do spike up. The variation over the last week for Royal roast is from 40 gold down to 30. As of right now the recipe is breaking even at 32 gold per. So if you could sell at 38 you would be making 20% profit margin.
When are prices high
Usually prices spike before raids get going on the raid reset day. This is not a guarantee of course, but this is typically when the AH runs low as everyone is buying to get off to raid. If you want to make gold you will want to pay attention to material prices on undermine exchange and buy up large stockpiles when they are low, then you want to craft a lot of stock to be ready for raid reset day. Then it’s a simple matter of reposting your stock until you sell out, hopefully selling at above the average weekly price with materials purchased below.
The new recipes?
Some of the new recipes are showing very high profits for cooking, but the sale rate is very low. I tested crafting some Puffer plates, as the recipe requires doing a very short quest line in the Coiled Isle. The recipe is showing 40%++ profit margin, which is almost unfathomably high for mass crafting to the region wide AH. That being said the sale rate is not super high. The region average daily sold is 2700, compared to 130 000 for the royal roast, so the volume you can move will be a lot lower and you may need to do more babysitting.
Competitive
The market is quite competitive in general so you will need to use cancel scanning to sell your stuff. My general suggestion is to use TSM and post a small number per post scan. I would suggest experimenting with the number, but during peak hours even 100 food will sell very quickly. Then you simply keep running post scans as often as possible, and any 5-10 minutes try to cancel any unsold auctions to repost. 12 hours as the post time is also a necessity to save on deposit costs.
