Inscription has been one of the top professions for goldmaking, in particular for the early parts of the expansion due to the darkmoon card trinkets. Let’s see if that holds up in Pandaria!
Cards are cooldowns
First things first. Darkmoon card crafting is now a daily cooldown. This is both a blessing and a curse. The trinkets are very strong, so demand will be very high and it will be incredibly hard to cover demand with the amount of scribes. On the other hand you can’t go hard on one character. Some players are already preparing scribe alt armies to craft darkmoon cards. I suspect the profit margin per card will be VERY high, so this looks like a very good strategy for the early patch. Eventually you may want to transition them to another daily cooldown, as cards will be left behind in subsequent phases.
Glyphs
Glyphs are still part of the game and still great. Both old and new glyphs will sell well, and Mists brings a lot of changes to glyph functionality so BiS glyphs will change around.
Scroll of Wisdom weapons
In addition to the darkmoon cards you can craft a Scroll of Wisdom once a day. These can be used to craft BoE staves and off-hands. The Scroll is BoP so you have to craft it 20 days in a row for the epic weapons, but that will likely be worth your while. This is another advantage to having inscription alts.
Shoulder enchants
Shoulder enchants in Mists of Pandaria are now crafted by scribes. This means you get access to a new market with permanent bonuses for players. The top ones require 3 starlight ink, which is the rare pigment variant ink, so this is a great way to use those if you are mass milling for glyphs or other crafts.
No reputations
Overall none of the economicall relevant recipes require reputation to unlock. This is a huge advantage with inscription in this expansion, and makes it a fantastic alt profession. I would not have this on my main, and you do not need anything more than access to the trainers to get all the economic benefits of inscription. Overall it is looking very good so if you are bored, now is the time to set up some extra scribes.
