We will be going through all of the professions in WoW: Forever to get an idea of what is changing and what the optimal setups are, and we’ll start alphabetically!
New recipes galore
Alchemists are getting alot of new recipes across a variety of level ranges. The big new recipes include intermediate materials used to craft the various BoP leveling gear recipes, a suite of new elixirs that are analogous to the elixir of the Mongoose and new combat potions that provide short duration buffs. We are also getting a new end game transmute that is used in a lot of end-game crafting recipes.
Intermediate crafting
Materials crafted by one profession and used by another have typically been very profitable to craft. In WoW Forever Alchemists get 4 different intermediate materials to craft used in the BoP leveling gear that a lot of players are planning to go. If we’re lucky they are all going to go gather+crafting to be self-sufficient as that was the common sentiment on my video on profession choice. That would mean competition will be relatively low. That being said we are on MEGA-servers so the competition will be very high. There’s not much of a barrier to entry either.
New elixirs
If you were a physical dps in classic you are well acquainted with the Elixir of the Mongoose, the strongest consumable in the game. Blizzard hve in forever added multiple “versions” of this with new elixirs. They all give 25 of a main stat and 2% crit chance. Mongoose was an absolutely massive seller in classic and I expect most of the new ones to sell really well, as 2% crit is a massive buff for any spec. The duration has been reduced to 30 minutes, so people will need twice as many for a typical raid night. Herb nodes are also heavily increased though, so I would not be too surprised to see these effectively being cheaper than they were in classic.
New flasks
We are getting some new flasks specifically for the new raids coming in Forever. I expect these to do quite well, as their effects seem very strong. It’s possible we can use the high level alchemy lab as part of campfires to avoid going to Scholomance to craft them, but we will have to see when the game comes out.
New potions
Combat potions are a consumable type that wasnt super prevalent in classic. We are now getting new potions that provide a short buff to attack power or spellpower, including potions that give larger buffs but only against a specific mob type. I expect these to have strong demand when we get into raiding. Exactly which recipe will be the best will depend on class distribution, balance and the raids we get of course.
Commerce exchange recipes
A lot of the new recipes are from the commerce exchange faction. You will need to fill crates and turn them in. We will see what the cheapest crates are, you can fill them with various raw materials or some very lightly processed ones in the form of cloth bolts, metal bars or some engineering parts. Overall I expect th cloth boxes to be quite cheap to fill, but you will also have to get the boxes, either on the AH or through drops.
Overall verdict
Alchemy was really good for goldmaking in classic and I do expect it to stay. That beind said the megaserver structure alongside the new AH will lead to very high competition. Profit margins will be under pressure, but demand will also be very high. I also expect less people to go alchemy with the fairly, particularly early on with the substantial buffs to profession bonuses while leveling in terms of BoP gear.
