Today we will take a wider look at what has been one of my main professions in Mists in Jewelcrafting. Out of 250k in sales 70 000 har been from Jewelcrafting.

Prospecting is the best

Sadly there is no way around the fact that the best way to make gold with jewelcrafting is the labor intensive process of prospecting. I already covered prospecting, including a spreadsheet to help you figure out your profits, but the TL;DR is that it is very profitable on average, particularly when you cut your gems.

Rare cuts not worth it off the AH

Sadly doingrare cuts by buying the rare gems is generally not worth it. Some gems will have maybe 10 gold profit, but the margins are very low, so I would generally speaking not consider it. If you are prospecting then your gem acquisition cost is like 20-40% lower than the AH value, which makes it a lot better.

Rings and necklaces are good

The rare rings and necklaces are all very consistent sellers. The nice thing is that the recipes are from the trainer, as well as the high requirement for Serpent’s Eyes means they are a VERY good way of getting rid of all the Serpent’s Eyes you will get an absolute ton of if you do prospecting. Ring and necklaces account for 16 000 gold in sales for me, and I have quite slack at restocking them.

Perfect cuts very good usage of uncommons

Cutting uncommon gems is kind of a hidden trick this expansion. The perfect procs are VERY valuable as they are as good as the rare gems, and due to people not paying too much attention to the game they can sometimes even sell for more than the rare gems. I have 17400 gold in perfect gem sales. As far as I can tell from online sources the rate of getting a perfect proc is about 10% (and my most recent test batch had 58 perfect gems out of 500) and that means that for many uncommon gems it can be worth buying uncut gems and cutting them. You would usually just vendor the normal cuts and sell the perfects on the AH. Simply take the value of the perfect gem and divide it by 10 to see if that is more than the uncut price.

I just looked up Tiger Opals on my ah where the uncut gem is selling for 5g70s and the best perfect cuts are currently all the way up at 150 gold. That means you are tripling your gold even if you just sell all the normal cuts to a vendor. There’s an absolute ton of gems at 100 gold where you would be roughly doubling your money, so this is VERY good and very lazy. The biggest limit will be the amount of uncut uncommons on the AH, as there arent that many.

TSM Settings

Below you can find my full TSM group for selling jewelcrafting items. I do use some different hard coded prices for cut gems, so you may want to swap those operations around or change the prices depending on your realm.
