The last profession on the list today!
Historical value
Tailoring has often been a very good goldmaking profession. In addition to cloth armour, you can craft bags, which everyone needs and you also usually have the ability to do disenchanting shuffles by combining it with enchanting. This usually puts it slightly above leatherworking for classic, and depending on the value of weapons above blacksmithing as well.
New recipes
The new recipe types are pretty much completely analogous to leatherworking and blacksmithing. There are some new rare BoP recipes, which are irrelevant for goldmaking. Then there are new epic BoEs crafted using raid materials and a bunch of new Uncommon BoEs. In addition for tailoring there are a lot of new bags, in particular reagent bags for the new reagent specific bag slot.
Bags can be great
Bags are still often a good source of sales. Now everyone knows this, so we often see a lot of people prioritize bags for leveling tailoring, and this will drive prices down early on. That being said Linen bags are often profitable to craft and vendor, so it does depend on cloth prices. The higher level bags are a different story, with generally decent profitability. The same is true for the new reagent bags, as they generally cost a lot more than normal bags at the same level. This means players will only really craft these for a profit. The Bottomless reagent bag at max level stands out, with a VERY high crafting cost in terms of materials.
For leveling gear old recipes dominate
Overall I don’t see the new uncommon BoEs as too economically viable. There are options for most of these slots, but of course we can see some sales here and there. There are also a lot of changed gear recipes, with most mid tier crafted items getting more spellpower. The Dreamweave items around level 40 were a great seller for me eventually for players leveling their alts, but they are competing to some extent with the BoP gear, particularly for alt leveling where it makes a lot of sense to spend extra on keeping a crafting profession up to date.
New epics depend on drop rates
As with the other armor professions the new epic recipes rely heavily on how abundant the materials from disenchanting raid epics will be. Early on I expect trade chat crafting for commission to dominate, but down the line the price will fall and may make it more reasonable to craft them for a profit directly.
Mooncloth
Mooncloth is used in a lot of the new recipes, and the cooldown cloth is looking like it could be a lot more profitable in forever than in classic. The new raid epics, the new bags as well as all the old recipes that use it combine to give a lot of demand for mooncloth. I expect this to be a very nice extra profit for tailoring, and this is a reason to level it early on to get more cooldowns.
Overall verdict
I think tailoring is looking good. For me this is the preferred armor profession and I am planning to level it early. The main reason is to pair it with enchanting for shuffling, but bags, and early mooncloth are other reasons to prioritize leveling tailoring early. Overall tailoring looks like a very good profession to get online early to take advantage of early rushes in bags, in particular the reagent bags. This will require you to stay on top of the profession, so investing effort early here should be quire good.
