One market has always been my go to in classic, as well as in retial when we still had the old AH, and that is material flipping. With the sheer number of relevant materials in the game currently this is even better than it has been in the past!
Why is material flipping so good?
There are two main reasons why I like this for entry level players. The first is that it does not require too much capital, as you can just focus on one material when starting out. The other is that it is only based on the AH, and thus it allows you to learn how AH based methods work, and you get to make some early mistakes to learn from with relatively small consequences.
How does it work
My general approach has been unchanged for a long while. I buy materials up to a maximum price of 80% of the current market value. I will then try to sell the materials in various even stack sizes for at least the full market value. That means we’re looking at a minimum profit of about 20%. This has proven to be a very consistent goldmaking method on the classic AH, and with material prices stabilizing this far into the expansion, it works well.
My approach is to aim for items with a short turn around time, you want to have a good chance of selling your items for a profit within a day or a week preferably. This means that the better a deal you can find, the better it is.
The vendor price pitfall
The main error you want to avoid is buying items where the vendor selling price is too high. This will lead to high deposit costs relative to the gold you can get in and make it unprofitable quickly. The main materials this typically happens to is ore, bars and cloth. Herbs, enchanting materials and leather are all great opportunities for flipping. Enchanting materials in particular as they don’t have any deposit costs, which means you are not spending any gold to keep them on the AH.
Just buy brainlessly
Usually I just buy materials brainlessly according to the TSM operations I use. If the current price is less than 80% of the market value I will buy it. Every once in a while I might make an exception if the vendor price is too high, or I can make a gap from 82 to 110% of the market value, but when starting out, just buy without thinking. Making mistakes is the way to learn, so don’t be afraid of them.
The screenshot below shows a typical shopping result with the top 3 materials being things I want to buy.
What should you prioritize flipping
Below is my resale summary for TBC classic all time. It includes some classic data, but I mostly stopped flipping material a while into classic as I needed all the materials I could buy to craft. The top seller, vision dust, is one of my favorite materials to flip. The entire group of enchanting leveling materials is fantastic as tons of players still want max classic enchanting. Outside of that niche I like herbs and enchanting materials from TBC as they have very low deposit costs. Lastly the Aldor and Scryers rep items are not exactly materials, but the same approach works well for them.
TSM Imports
Below you can find my TSM settings for flipping both TBC and Classic materials. Both groups will work well and I use them completely as is. Hopefully you see success as well!

So you just buy everything under 80% and use the operations you posted to repost them?
Yes
How o I import the TBC string into my TSM? Completely new to this!
Did you find out how to import settings?
No, how do I import? ;/
You copy the strings at the bottom, then you go the groups view in tsm and at the top left there should be an import button, it’s not labeled, just a symbol with an arrow pointing downwards.
It is a problem of the dimensions of the website, not that he is posting it wrong. u can inspect the element and see the text for yourself, I did it by myself and found this.

Aweome guide, staring to have it work. Though, after importing your groups, it changed the “%” column, like you explain. Is there anyway to make this back to the regular %marketvalue and not the 80%Marketvalue=100% ?? Or will this break something else?
It will just be based on 80%dbmarket when running shopping scans with this specific group, if you just search normally it will still use the regular market value to evaluate the percentage.
Do you use both TBC and Classic together on same auction house?
Yeah, in tbc you can flip both tbc and classic era materials
Very nice information. I am giving it a go. Bought several items, mostly enchanting and some leather. I had been just selling greens that my alts have collected while leveling, but I need more gold. So, we shall see how flipping goes. Keeping my fingers crossed….I will let ya know!
So do you think that this method of gold making is still viable this late in the expansion?
Yes, as long as people play these items have value and there’s still a whole raid to go.
Yes, it still works.
Thanks for the guide Im new to playing the AH and trying to lesen. Im doing this right now but there is one question I was asking myself.
You said you buy till 80% and post at 100% dbmarket.
So you ignore people undercutting and assume that (since your items are at 100% value) you will be getting sales after people buy up everything below 100%?
I had many stacks of linen cloth at 6-70% dbmarket and I bought like 2k cloth for about 7g total and posting them at like 90% dbmarket. I got a few initial sales but now people are undercutting me like crazy (20% at a time). Should I buy these up too? Or does this mean turnrate is too low for this and sales wont come with this approach?
Might be better to level up tailoring on an alt. And disenchant the greens. If you can’t sell the linen cloth that is. Plus you could make low-level wands that sell
Linen is a pretty bad item for this as its just too cheap and easy to generate. If you overbuy you may have to sell at a loss
