The market the richest players in WoW all love!

Today I’m going old school. Battle pet flipping!

Who is this good for

Battle pet flipping is great for people who already have a decent chunk of gold and want to scale it purely by staying on the AH. It does not require too much effort once it’s set up and it can scale really well up or down depending on how much time you want to commit to it. The profit potential is VERY high long term. This is a market players have made multi gold caps in.

The basics

The basic idea is to take advantage of the fact that battle pets have different prices on different realms. You can also very easily move the pets from realm to realm using the pet journal. This means you can buy pets on realms where they are very cheap and then spread them around to more expensive realms.

Analysis vs. lazyness

When it comes to picking realms and pets you can do deep analysis on prices using Undermine Exchange or the TSM web site. I think if you want to go down that route you are better of making your own tracking system and integrating live prices. When I did this I just did it lazily by letting my TSM settings do the work for me. Essentially I used the region market value as the base price and if pets where VERY cheap compared to the region price I would buy them and then just move them around between my realms until they got posted.

Pricing strategy

I had a tiered pricing strategy where I would set the price level depending on how expensive the pet is. For more expensive pets I would buy up to 80% of the regionmarket value, whereas for cheaper pets I would buy for 50% of the region market value. That way I had a LOT of leeway on my purchase prices. For selling I would post at a minimum price of 20% more than my purchase price and a max price of 2.5 times my maximum purchase price. I think it makes sense to limit your maximum price as other people can easily move gold around and buy on other realms so too large price differences can be harder to sustain.

Buying pets

To buy pets I use a little TSM trick. If you wanted to use a group the scan would take forever, but you can search for all battle pets without a group. If you simply type /Battle Pets into the search bar in TSM it will search up all battle pets. The nice part is that it will also include the minimum price for every pet. You can then pause the scan and start buying. To make sure you are comparing prices correctly you need to change the default shopping price in TSM. You can do that under Settings → browse. I would suggest setting it to 50% dbregionmarketavg. Then you can sort by the percentage and simply buy the cheap ones. Stuff like the 20% pets in the screenshot below have a potential profit margin of 5-6 times the price you are paying. Everything below 100% has profit potential.

Selling them

To sell them you can grab my old battle pet group. I have not updated it, so there are some missing pets, but since you use the /battle pets search to find them you will still be buying them so simply add them to the group.

Moving them between realms

To move pets between realms you learn them when you buy them. Then you need an addon called BattlePetCageMatch (yes, it’s all one word). This will give you a button on your pet journal you can click that will cage up pets an add them to your inventory. By degault it will cage up 1 of every pet you do not have in your inventory. Once you’de done caging you go to the AH and run a post scan. After that you can recage every pet that did not get posted and go to the next realm.

Multi realm is necessary

You need multiple realms for this to work and a lot of pets. The reason I stopped doing it is because I got burned out, stayed logged out for more than 30 days and lost millions of gold worth of pets to mail expiring. At that point I did have 12 different realms and somewhere between 80-140 pets posted on each realm at any point in time, so it was quite the time tax on the post scans. It is absolutely perfect for second monitor goldmaking though as you are on complete auto pilot after buying the pets and once you have a couple hundred pets you don’t really need to rebuy too often.
