Blizzard just announced that patch 12.1.5 will have a new vanity mount in the long boi category. The mount will cost 7 million, and you have until the end of Midnight to buy it, so let’s break it down.
How much time do you have?
Wow expansions have typically run for about two years, but The War Within was shorter at about 1 and 8 months. With 12.1.5 likely coming in 5-6 weeks we will have about a year or a little more of Midnight left if it follows the same duration as The War Within had. To get the mount with both the AH and transmog vendor you will need to earn 7 million gold in that time.
19000 gold per day
If you are starting from scratch that means you will need to generate a profit of about 19000 gold per day every day until the end of Midnight. Now this is relatively high, particularly for anyone not used to doing goldmaking, but it is absolutely not outside the realm of possibility.
The farming route
I am not a farmer, but this is the simple and linear way. There are farms ranging from 20 to 50 000 gold per hour available with a bunch of different fast selling items. If you can do a 50 000 gold per hour farm for an hour every day, then you would be done in half a year. This is a relatively large commitment of course, but even at half the time so farming an hour every other day you would be done in time. You will need to look for farms with a high gold per hour, old world materials, transmog or battle pets can often yield much higher GPH than farming current content materials now that Midnight is past the launch boom.
Concentration armies
You regenerate 10 concentration per hour. So that means that any one character will generate about 175 200 total concentration spread over two professions from now and until the end of Midnight. For this example we will assume a optimal setup with alchemy and one profession that has 2 gold concentration values (this can be enchanting, jewelcrafting or inscription at the moment). Potions can max out at almost 5, but we will use 3.5 gold here for a more modestly set up character. Now these values are unlikely to stay at the current level throughout, so we will modify them by reducing them by 30% on average. This means you can expect about 337 260 gold profit per concentration alt for the rest of the expansion. To get the bruto you would need 21 characters, but this does not include the setup costs. On the other side it does not include the value from profitable patron orders either, so that should more than balance out. If you want to rely on just concentration I would suggest going higher on the crafters, maybe as high as 30 to try to get done faster.
Mass crafting
Mass crafting is by far the most consistent profession based method. Simply you will craft something with a guaranteed outcome and sell the results. The easiest to get into is cooking, but competition there is quite high (and it is the only one I have set up, so we will use it as an example). At 10 gold profit per craft you will need to craft 700 000 times to get there. Luckily this is well within the realm of possibility for items to sell. The bad news is that this is very time inefficient, you are looking at several hundred hours to generate the items. That being said you can mass craft while AFK so it can utilize time you would not otherwise be able to do anything profitable. Purchase up materials and click craft all while you go make dinner and you can get value out of time you wouldnt be able to use.
Flipping
If you want to try your hand at flipping you will have to go quite hard. Battle pet flipping or similar markets are great, but not for reaching a specific gold amount in a short amount of time unless you know you can dedicate a lot of time to it. The main reason is that it takes a while to build up stock, so you will be spending gold for quite some time. I think investing into lots of slow moving items is less optimal for going for the 7 million gold mount, but it absolutely can be done. If you want to utilize this approach you need to have multiple realms and preferably be reposting every 24 hours to maximize your potential sales. The key issue will be selling enough battle pets. If you average 3000 gold profit per battle pet you need to sell 2300 pets. Typically I will sell around 1/100 or around that level per repost. That means you will need to post pets for sale 233 333 times. You will at least need to post 640 battle pet auctions per day to get there, and that is with a fairly high estimate for average profit. There are single pets that can yield 100 000 gold or more profit, but they sell even more slowly.
The best approach: The stack
In my opinion the best approach by far is to stack methods. The time frame is long enough that entering markets where you need to invest up front is quite good. You can even get over the hump with battle pet flipping, but you need to be very active. A simple plan would be to utilize a combination of battle pet flipping, farming and concentration alts.
Daily:
Repost and purchase battle pets on 5 realms: Target 100 pets for sale on each realm: Expected profit/day = 15 000 g
Farm 20 minutes, expected profit = 10 000 g (example farm: Studen Essence of undeath)
Every 3 days:
Concentration crafting on 10 crafters, expected profit = 21 600 (7200 per day)
With this you would be doing around 37200 gold in expected profit per day, which puts you on track for the 7 million gold in 188 days. If Midnight has the same duration as The War within you have a year, so with this setup you have a good bit of margin to get there. I’m also disregarding some simple sources of gold like weekly caches, doing gold world quests on multiple alts and profitable patron orders.
