Easy afk crafting

The main benefit of cooking is that you can do it as completely afk mass crafting. Buy up a bunch of materials, craft a couple hundred or thousand buff foods and post them to the AH around raid times or peak player hours to quickly sell it off. Buff food is always in demand and players will always be buying these as anyone playing at any time will be looking to maximize the performance of their character whether it is in raid or m+.

No knowledge

There’s no cooking knowledge points to gain, which is both a blessing and a curse. On the positive side it means you can setup a character very quickly, on the other side so can anyone else, which will drive down profits. Cooking is very competitive as you can only sell on the region wide AH, and there is very little differentiation possible, and no quality tiers on the finished items either.

Stats matter a lot

On the other side stats matter a lot, including profession skill. Epic profession gear will increase your profits, but unlike many other professions it will not completely make or break your profits. The reason is simply that they are pre-programmed with resourcefulness, which is a lot less powerful than multicraft. A multicraft enchant on the tool is more important than upgrading to epic quality. Another factor that matters quite a bit is your skill, and you should set up a pandaren cook for the +5 skill racial.

The impact of skill

Based on some testing the value of 5 skill translates to an increase of your average output of 1.2%. This isn’t massive, but it will help out. As we can see even on my cook with just skill level 100 there are plenty of profitable recipes, even if the margins on some of the high volume ones are below 10 %. With epic tools and 105 skill I would be looking at a healthy profit.

Finishing reagents matter

THere are cooking specific finishing reagents and they are generally profit increasers for many recipes. Earthy garnish will give a massive resourcefulness boost which is very good for the feasts. For single foods it is generally too expensive relative to the cost of the materials to be worthwhile.

Get Flora Frenzy

For single foods the best recipe is Flora Frenzy as it is very cheap to craft. You need to do a questline in Harandar to unlock it, so head out to the northwest corner of Harandar to do the questline starting with Late Bloomers from Ney’leia.
