The BEST professions and methods for getting rich on Classic Fresh Realms!

On Warcraft direct Blizzard just announced that Classic WoW fresh servers are coming! So let’s look at the best ways to make gold in Classic.

Sweats vs. casuals

Leveling takes a long time in classic. This means that depending on how much you are planning to play at the beginning of Classic there are some differences in what the optimal approach is, as being higher level will give you access to a lot more markets than low level.

The sweats: Go fast and big

If you have loads of time to play you should take advantage of being ahead of the leveling curve. Farming high level materials with low competition can be a great long term play, so going gathering can be massive long term. There won’t be much end game demand yet, so farming materials players need to level materials is going to give you the best sales right now, whereas farming materials like plaguebloom will set you up for a massive warchest when players start using mongoose elixirs. Either way take advantage of a less cluttered world to stock up on harder to farm materials and sell to the players behind you, as that’s where the mass market is.

Casuals: crafting and flipping

If you are not leveling super quickly you will spend a lot more time with less efficient raw gold as you can’t kill or farm high level mobs. You can however make use of crafting professions, and they can be profitable from very early on. Enchanting for wands is a massive staple for day one as every caster will want to get a strong wand to speed up early leveling. Just run to town on a level 5 and you can get started, you can even shuffle with linen cloth. Then you want to work up into higher crafts. Shuffling enchanting materials can be good, as can just flipping anything you find cheaply on the AH.

End-game Gathering

If you are farmer I suggest making your gatherer a rogue, and have both mining and herbalism. The main benefits of a rogue farmer is for doing ooze-covered thorium veins in Silithus by stealthing, as well as farming bloodvine in ZG when that opens up. It’s viable, but not my favorite way to make gold.

Crafting professions

The two best professions for goldmaking in my opinion are alchemy and engineering. Alchemy for the absolutely ludicrous number of powerful consumables in classic, and interestingly engineering for the exact same reason. Engineering consumables are time consuming to craft and sapper charges, iron grenades and various intermediate crafts all sell really well. If you have a second account get a crafter to 35 on account two to craft sappers while you play your main.

Flipping is great

Material flipping is absolutely fantastic. Long term you can stock up on a lot of materials that aren’t valuable early on, and you can take advantage of the ebb and flow of prices. My material flipping guide is just as relevant now as it was when I wrote it. Good luck and happy hunting!
