My Favorite classic profession is still looking good in Mists! MoP Blacksmithing Gold Guide

Blacksmithing has been one of my favorite goldmaking professions in the later classic expansions and the same markets are available in Mists so it is looking nice!

So much gear

Over the life time of Mists Blacksmiths get access to a TON of recipes. Most of them are PvP catch up recipes that gets added down the line, but overall Wowhead has 161 recipes in the database for MoP. This breadth of recipes is very nice and means you can easily cover a LOT of buyers with just one profession.

Belt buckles

Belt buckles are back in Mists, but this time they are more expensive. They require a Living steel, which is on a daily cooldown for alchemists. I expect the big value here will be the transmute, but from my own experience from original mists the buckles sell VERY fast. Having a good Living Steel pipeline can be very profitable regardless, but this is definitely an aspect.

Epics

Epic gear is back as well. In the first patch the most relevant recipes are from the Klaxxi in the Dread Wastes. The recipes all require honored with the Klaxxi, so if you want to maximize the value of your blacksmith you will want to get to the Dread Wastes as soon as possible. I expect these recipes will be part of Pre-BiS setups for players and should see some real demand early on. These recipes all require Spirits of Harmony, so you do want to make sure you have a way of generating enough of those to support your crafting. It’s also possible they are better spent on other recipes so if you have to farm them you may want to focus on someone else.

Rare gear

There’s a ton of rare gear, including the entry level PvP sets that I have made bank on in Wrath and Cataclysm. On top of that there are a bunch of weapons which can be very useful for early gearing for a wide variety of classes to more efficiently get into heroics. All of the PvE focused weapons require Spirits of Harmony which you will need a pipeline for. Luckily it’s just 2 per so you can probably restock in more infrequent sessions.

Cooldowns in the later patches

In 5.1 and 5.2 Blacksmiths get a daily cooldown BoP material used to craft epics. Some of these require going to the patch specific content. You will want to level your blacksmith to max level in time for that so you can take advantage of them, and there is potential for having an alt army down the line to have a higher production of these epics. It is expensive though, and for launch your alt army is better focused on alchemy and tailoring most likely.
