Everything you need to know to make gold prospecting Titanium!

Phase 3 is upon us, and for those of you looking to make gold with prospecting I have a brand spanking new spreadsheet ready to go!

Make your gold when you buy

If you want to make gold with prospecting you have to make your gold when you buy. What does that mean? It means you have to pay the right price, so knowing what the value of the gems you will end up with is CRUCIAL.

Enter the spreadsheet

I always use spreadsheets to calculate the value of ore. I’ve updated my wrath sheet, so it now supports all the gems coming with Phase 3. You can use it with the TSM API key that you can get on your user page at tradeskillmaster.com. Then you can download data for your realm, and instantly see if it’s worth prospecting, as well as what the top recipes are.

Overrides

There are a ton of cuts, and often some very low sale rate cut has been the most expensive one. I’ve kept the overrides on the per gem basis. If you want to override a price, simply check the box next to the gem and add a price manually in the override box. You can also go to the calculations sheet (it’s not cleaned up, so beware if you’re an actual spreadsheet professional) and look through the list to see which cuts are good.

Value is skewed

While the chance to get a blue gem and red gem is the same, the value of the red gem is usually a lot higher than blue gems. Essentially you need to prospect a lot, to make sure it evens out, otherwise any profit calculation can be wildly wrong.

TSM settings

Below you can find my Jewelcrafting TSM setup. It does include settings for all the new epic gems, so you can get started right away. The setup is based on crafting, so the price is compared to the value of the uncut gem. This can be sub-optimal if you prospect all your gems, but it’s the safest catch all solution. You can swap to hardcoded gold values in stead to ensure your stuff gets posted if necessary.
