Maximizing the value of consumables

With the release of Crucible of Storms upon us now is the perfect time to take a look at some strategies to maximize the value you get from selling your consumables.

Which items does this apply to?

When I say consumables I mainly refer to the various stat buff foodsflasks and potionsEnchants and gems will to a lesser degree see the same dynamics, but they have a slightly different demand as people buy these items after the raid, rather than before.

Maximize your total sales and your prices

There are two things you seek to maximize when maximizing the value of your auctions: the price you get per sale and the total number of sales. Below we will take a look at my best tips for helping increase either your sales, the price you get or both!

Post at the right time

Posting at the right time is crucial to get a lot of consumable sales. People will generally buy the majority of their consumables on raid reset days and the day before raid reset days. As such you will generally get a lot more sales if you actively run auctioning scans on the raid reset day in your region.

Posting at the right time will typically get you both more sales and a higher price. The AH generally runs drier on raid reset days, especially for food and flasks.

Post in the right stack size

Enchanting Sales

Posting in the right stack size is crucial for the consumables. If you post flasks in stacks of 2, 3, 4 or 5 you can get as much as 20% more gold per flask. There is generally much less competition for these stack sizes and people are willing to pay more gold to save a click or two!

For foog you generally want to focus on maximum stack sizes of 20. Potions will also typically move best in larger stack sizes as players go through a lot of them so just buying one at the time is not going to cut it.

Avoid long auction durations

Generally you will either get the sale within 12 hours or be undercut. To save on deposit costs I suggest posting your stuff for only 12 hours at the time.

Run post scans often

As you will typically get undercut quickly and sell out quickly it helps if you craft a lot of items at the time and run several post scans during the evening. More sales is more gold and you can make more gold on a single day than you do the rest of the week together in these markets by posting a lot on raid reset nights.
