Next up on the list of The War Within profession previews is Leatherworking! This was hit or miss for me in Dragonflight, so let’s see if it’s been switched up.
I’m dumb
I realized I could just buy beta access, so we are finally recording from inside the game.
The gear
Gear pieces in The War Within is very similar to what we had in Dragonflight. We get recipes for every slot for leather and mail that can be embellished and improved in terms of item level. These are all learned from your knowledge tree. In addition there are pre-embellished pieces which come with a specific effect and stats. There’s also rare BoE gear, which can be upgraded. I haven’t been able to get one of the upgrade items on beta, so not sure if it sets it to BoP or not, hopefully you can sell it, but ultimately I expect it to be a work order item again.
PvP Gear
PvP gear has been changed slightly. On beta the recipes are purchasable with honor, and can be traded on the AH. This should drive the price down early on, and make it easier to farm the recipes you want. It will also likely limit profit margins, but with hopefully cheaper recipes it should still be good.
Armor kits
Leatherworkers can craft leg enchants in the form of armor kits. These are tailored to agility and strenght specs, both DPS and tanks. As they are traded on the region AH the profit margin will be limited, but a specialized early build may pay off.
Profession Equipment
Profession equipment is also mostly staying the same as in Dragonflight. The rare recipes require a significant amount of Acuity, which is the new mettle resource. You have both rare and uncommon recipes, with the rare recipes giving a lot more skill than in Dragonflight, so these will be highly sought after.
Embellishments
You can also craft a couple of embellishments. Overall crafting embellishments was a fairly low value prospect in Dragonflight, but in The War Within minimizing recipe difficulty is more important as inspiration has been removed. This means more skill is always better.
Overall view
Overall Leatherworking looks very similar to Dragonflight. The best way to make gold will be crafting orders for high end gear. There will also be opportunities for early builds focused on other niches, but I expect those to be more shortlived.
